Church called on to partner State against corruption

Mr Eric Opoku, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, on Sunday, appealed to churches to partner the state in the fight against indiscipline and corruption which is on the rise.

He said the canker had become widespread and gained so much roots that the state alone could not fight it.

Mr Opoku who made the appeal at the climax of a three-day congress of the Salvation Army Men’s Fellowship in Sunyani, therefore, called for a state-church partnership to reduce the menace if not totally eliminating it.

The Congress on the theme, “Man, walk in the light of God,” was attended by about 500 men from the church’s branches nation-wide.

He noted that a day hardly passes without the news of disregard for authority, embezzlement and mismanagement of resources in various parts of the country.

“Indiscipline is breeding corruption and greed and these have the tendency to cause chaos and anarchy in our society,” he observed,

The Regional Minister identified riches, honour and long life as man’s greatest desires in contemporary times, saying that people would do anything, even if killing fellow human being to satisfy these desires of life.

Colonel Joseph Lukau, Territorial Commander of the Salvation Army, Ghana, in a sermon on the theme, urged Ghanaians to have the courage to lead upright lives to make a difference in the society.

Col. Lukau cautioned that envy, jealousy, hatred and pride had the tendency to plunge mankind into darkness but “when men walk in the light of God, they are a blessing to their family, nation and the world at large.

“Men of light are blessed because they have good relationship with God, and are, therefore, blessed as peacemakers wherever they are,” he said.

The Territorial Commander urged Ghanaians to have faith and hope in God, “for Him to bless us and make us blessing to Africa and the world at large”.
