Northern Muslim clerics condemn Boko Haram

Islamic clerics in the Northern Region have declared zero tolerance for the deadly activities of Boko Haram operatives in Nigeria.

Discontented about the operation of the Boko Haram militants, they described the practice as un-Islamic and, therefore, called for concerted efforts to get rid of them.

Northern Regional Imam, Alhaji Abubakari Abdul Salam raised this issue when the US Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Gene Cretz met with the Muslim community at the Tamale central mosque.

He grieved, “Just when the people of the north are bracing themselves to take education seriously the issues of Boko Haram emerged which is also an indication that western education is unlawful and un-Islamic as the name suggest.”

He called for deeper collaboration between the US government and the Muslim community in the Northern Region.

Alhaji Abdul Salam pleaded with the US government to assist the Muslim community to expand western education in Islamic schools.

“We plead with you to assist us in the area of education in the north and our prayer is that Boko Haram never gets here to interrupt the progress we are making in the area of education.”

Ambassador Gene Cretz praised the Muslim clerics for disassociating themselves from the Boko Haram enmity.

He said the USAID had opened its office in Tamale to collaborate with all stakeholders including the Muslim community to improve the region’s socio-economic development.

Ambassador Cretz donated education materials to the Clerics and assured them of better projects ahead.
