This means the catholic churches do not understand scriptures period. The 144000 came out of the tribes of Jacob, then the blacksheep came out of born agains which is continous till Jesus the holy lamp appears in person. We see that the 144000 were not persecuted as the born agains, which most of them were killed, hated and destroyed all because of the name above all names Jesus Christ the saviour of the universe. Which means all born against in truthful to the Lord get hated, persecuted disfrenchise due to the messages they carry. The author of this treatise did a remarkable job. I heartily agree that forgiveness is a gift of God, and I will explore its beauty to buttress his laudable work.
Forgiving a neighbor of an offence has never been easy. However, it is much easier if one has a covenantal relationship with Christ.
To understand God's forgiveness we will have to understand it from God's perspective: the Adamic Covenant, and what it meant for the Adamic race.
The experiential knowledge of sin by our first parents, Adam and Eve when they disobeyed God's commandment by eating of the forbidden fruit, made them morally incapable to further fight the temptations of their adversary, Satan.
God solved the sin dilemma by revealing his Covenant of Grace (unmerited favor)--the plan of salvation-- to restore Adam and Eve, and their future descendants to their former state (favor, peace with God) in Eden.
This plan hinged on one person. In the plan we see him as the Sacrificial Lamb, the Priest, the Mediator, and the Atonement (at-one-ment) for God and the Adamic race.
"Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house"(Isaiah 42:5-47).
"Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages"(Isaiah49:8).
The life of Christ reveals God's heart in our forgiveness, an ever- vertical-progression of grace to be extended horizontally to our neighbors.
It is the inestimable price God paid for the incarnation which made grace possible for the Adamic race. I would cite excerpts of Isaiah's depiction of the life of Christ about 500 years before his first advent.
"Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth" (Isaiah 53:4-7).
God's purpose in forgiving us redemptive: to restore us into the wholeness of Christ-- a freedom from the penalty of sin through his grace, and a growing power over our sin problems, so we can have a hope of a future when the very presence of sin will be no more when our Savior comes again.
"As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us" (Psalms 103:12).
"For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away" (Hebrews 8:10-13).
