General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Reverend Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, is asking for way to end the menace of charlatan preachers in the country.
His comments come on the back of the proliferation of quack men of God who are leading many souls astray.
“Any individual can wake up tomorrow morning and set up a church and there are no checks and balances. The person does not bring himself or herself under any ethic and when you ask the police to also come in, it is like I’m being persecuted,” Mr. Opuni-Frimpong stated.
According to him, “while the laws of this country are helping some pastors, because we can have churches in classrooms and anywhere, others are also taking undue advantage of the freedoms pastors have and misbehaving so it becomes very difficult to check those people.”
Speaking to Citi News, Rev Opuni-Frimpong advised the churches to ensure that individuals who establish churches are authentic members of the Christian Council of the nation.
In his opinion, this measure would serve as an antidote to reducing the issue of fake pastors which is currently plaguing the country.
“If someone is a member of Christian Council of Ghana and you do some of the things you have mentioned, within the next second, you will be thrown out. “The church leaders of this country should be able to check other colleague ministers who are bringing the name of the church into shame and disgrace.”
