SDA Church creates new union

A new union, Northern Ghana Union Mission (NGUM) of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA), has been inaugurated for effective evangelism, lecturing and church administration in the country.

It has been carved out of the existing Ghana Union Conference (GUC), now Southern Ghana Union Conference (SGUC) which has its headquarters in Accra.

The administration of the NGUM which has its headquarters at Atafoa in Kumasi is expected to take effect from January 1, 2014.

It will contain the Central Ghana Conference (CGC), South-Central Ghana Conference (SCGC), Mid-West Ghana Conference (MGC) and North Ghana Mission (NGM), catering for members in the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper West and Upper East regions.

The officers of the NGUM are Pastor Dr Kwame Kwanin Boakye, President; Pastor Dr Kwame Annor Boahen, Executive Secretary; Treasurer, Pastor Dickson Sarfo Marfo and Associate Treasurer, Mr Wilberforce Obuor.

The Departmental Heads are Pastor Dr Felix Y. Adu-Gyamfi, Ministerial Secretary, Family Ministries and Communication; Pastor Daniel Oduro Sarpong, Stewardship and Trust Services; Pastor Daniel Owusu Ansah, Health, Youth and Chaplaincy and Pastor Eric Mensah Abrampah, Personal Ministries and Sabbath School.

The rest are Pastor Philemon N. Aboungo, Publishing, Global Mission and Adventist-Muslim Relations and Mrs Lynda Vida Gyasi, Women/Children Ministries and Estates.

At the inaugural service held at the Bantama SDA Church in Kumasi, the President of the West-Central Africa Division (WAD) of the SDA, Pastor Dr Gilbert Wari, asked the new officers of the NGUM to work tirelessly for the Lord who had called them to aid in the advancement of “His Cause”.

He noted that though it was God’s work, as humans, they needed to remain focused and help in the effective and effectual evangelistic activities of the church.

The Executive Secretary of the WAD, Pastor Dr Onaolapo Ajibade, introduced the new officers to church members while the immediate past Executive Secretary of the Worldwide SDA Church, Pastor Dr M.A. Bediako, gave the inaugural prayer to usher the new officers into the hands of the Lord.
