Let us unite to develop Ghana - Deaconess Asante

Kumasi, June 14, GNA - Mrs Mary Asante, Deaconess of Suame Church of Pentecost in Kumasi has called on Ghanaians to unite and contribute meaningfully towards the country's political and socio-economic development.

She said; "It is time we avoid negative tendencies that mitigate against development and gear our efforts towards the country's advancement."

Mrs Asante made the call in a sermon at the quarterly meeting of Ashanti Regional Women's Prayer Group (ASHRWOP) in Kumasi on Wednesday. It was attended by women groups from Church of Pentecost, Methodist Church of Ghana, Assemblies of God Church to sing praises, pray and worshiped God for peace, stability and development in the country. She commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government for ensuring democracy, good governance, rule of law and freedom of speech in the country, adding; " we should endeavour to consolidate the achievements made by the government."

Mrs Asante appealed to Ghanaians to rekindle their communal spirit and initiate more developmental programmes in their communities to enhance their living standards.

She appealed to Christians to pray to God for guidance and protection to ensure peaceful elections in the 2008. Mrs Mary Brobbey, Leader of ASHRWOP, and Ashanti Regional Organizer of NPP Women's Wing, said the prayer meeting that was initiated last year, was the group's contributions towards peace, stability and development in the country.

She expressed appreciation to individuals and organizations for their assistance towards the programme. 14 June 07
