Muslims celebrate the birthday of Prophet Mohammed

Muslims at the weekend converged at Akweteman, a suburb of Accra to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.

The ceremony, which started at 2200 hours on Saturday ended at 0400 hours on Sunday.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, a member of the Organising Committee who described himself simply as Malam Imurana, said Prophet Mohammed was an embodiment of peace and unity and the celebration of his birthday was aimed at preaching peace to the world.

He therefore urged Muslims across the world to eschew violence and love one another in order to live in peace and harmony.

Malam Imurana also advised the youth in the Zongo communities to embrace education and resist any attempt to be used to cause violence.

He said government through the Youth Employment Programme has created more modules to cater for the teeming unemployed youth.

He urged the youth in the Zongo communities who lack formal education to apply for jobs through the office of the Youth Employment Authority.

The Authority is now known as Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency.

Malam Imurana appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to come up with a policy that would develop the Zongos.

He commended President Mahama for donating towards the celebration of the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed as well as the main opposition New Patriotic Party and other philanthropists.
