Bill Gates To Give KATH $5 million

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), in collaboration with the University of Utah in the US, is sourcing for US$5 million from the Bill Gates Foundation to procure equipment for the hospital.

The fund is expected to be used in training and retraining of health personnel of KATH and other health institutions nationwide.

Head of the Directorate of Anaesthesiology and Intensive care unit, KATH, Dr. Gabriel Boakye, disclosed this at the opening ceremony of a two-day anaesthetist refresher course for nurse anesthetists yesterday at Kumasi in Ashanti Region.

The course organised by KATH with the Utah University, aimed at upgrading knowledge of participants in anaesthesia and intensive care.

According to Dr Boakye, a simulator machine for training surgeons, anaesthetists and emergency situation personnel would be acquired, and added that exchange programmes between KATH and other health institutions and universities would be pursued vigorously with the fund.
