EC officials urged to show neutrality

New Edubiase (Ash), Dec. 5, GNA - The Parish Association of Catholic Teachers (PACT) has urged its members, who have been employed by the Electoral Commission (EC) to assist in the Tuesday's elections to endeavour to remain neutral in the discharge of their duties. Mr William Boakye Baafi, Co-ordinator of the New Edubiase branch of the association, who made the call, said the credibility and acceptance of the elections results by all parties depended on the conduct of the officials at the polling station.

He was speaking at a meeting of the association at New Edubiase on Saturday.

He said the EC chose to employ teachers to assist them in the conduct of the elections due to their high sense of responsibility and neutrality, which enabled them to handle pupils from different backgrounds in the classroom.

Mr Baafi appealed to polling officials and party agents to conduct themselves maturely to ensure peace and smooth conduct of the elections. He advised teachers to refrain from acts that could undermine the image of the profession and also use part of their lesson hours to educate pupils and students on good electoral practices. Mr Baafi urged the electorate to conduct themselves well to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.
