DFID provide furniture to schools in Nkoranza district

Nkoranza (B/A), Nov. 14, GNA - The Government in collaboration with the Department for International Development (DFID), a British educational donor agency, provided furniture valued at about 122.5 million cedis to the Nkoranza education district for distribution to schools in the area.

The furniture comprised 340 mono desks, 600 teachers' tables and chairs and 67 cupboards.

Mr Jarvis Agyeman-Badu, District Education Director, and Mr Francis Kwame Takyi, District Education Logistics Officer, disclosed this to Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza on Thursday.

Mr Agyeman-Badu appreciated the support of donor agencies in the promotion of education in the country, saying but for their support, the government alone would not have been able to shoulder the burden of national development.

He commended the government for its efforts to provide the necessary facilities in schools to promote education and expressed the hope that every school would be supplied with adequate furniture.

Mr Takyi explained that the mono desks had been sent to the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Centres in the district.

Meanwhile, School Management Committees and PTA executive members have been charged to visit schools regularly to ensure the maintenance of school buildings and the security of all school materials.
