GJA commends journalists in Upper East Region

Media practitioners in the Upper East Region have been praised for exhibiting high professionalism in their reportage on the death of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Adams Mahama.

They were also hailed for the manner they covered the recent chieftaincy problem in Bolgatanga.

The President of Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Dr Roland Affail Monney, gave the commendation during a meeting with the Regional branch of the association in Bolgatanga via telephone on Wednesday.

Whilst urging the practitioners to maintain high standards of the profession, he admonished them to be mindful of their lives since they could be targeted by aggrieved factions.

“Objectivity, impartiality and neutrality which is the hallmarks of the ethics of the profession must be strictly adhered to in all your reportage so as to avoid any accusation and chaotic situation,” he added.

Dr Monney called on journalists to focus on reporting on issues bothering on their welfare instead of always pursuing the agenda of other institutions.

He announced that the Committee of the 2015 GJA Award would be launched in June and encouraged journalists in the region to participate by submitting their entries.
