'Careless' motor rider killed by truck

A motorbike rider met his death Friday afternoon after he got killed by a tipper truck at Sokode Green Valley off the Ho-Accra road.

The man who is believed to be in his 40s, was returning from Ho to Kpeve on his motorbike with registration number, 1954-11 VR, while the tipper truck with registration number, VR-18-10 was conveying sand from Sokode to Ho.

According to an eyewitness, the deceased, who has been identified as Moses Agboletey, was speeding while talking on his mobile phone, causing him to lose control of his bike and veering off into the lane of the tipper truck.

Another eyewitness, Eli said: "I was in the farm when I heard a loud shout, when I came out, I saw a motorbike stuck under the tipper truck... and the body of the rider scattered all over”.

The distraught tipper truck driver, who returned to the scene with the police after reporting the accident said: “I saw the motorbike speeding in its lane and all of a sudden it veered off into my lane and crashed under the truck.”

He added that: “Because of the load of the truck, I couldn't stop immediately."

The Volta regional Police have since begun investigations into the fatal accident.
