MTN supports ‘Kobine Festival’ celebration

Mobile Telecommunication giant, MTN, on Tuesday presented a cheque of GH¢ 3,000.00 to the chiefs and people of the Lawra Traditional Area in support of the ‘Kobine Festival’.

Apart from the amount, the multinational company also gave airtime and some hampers consisting of drinks worth GH¢ 500.00 each as well as assorted MTN Souvenirs to add colour to the occasion.

It is also supporting the organisation of a durbar to climax the ‘Kobine Festival’ celebration on Wednesday at Lawra in addition to other activities such as the MTN inter-community football Gala and cycling competitions as well as musical concert and street jam.

Mr. James Basintale Bukari, General Manager, Sales and Distribution, MTN Northern Business District, presented the cheque and the items to Naa Puowele Karbo II, Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area and said the company remained committed to the promotion of the rich Ghanaian heritage through festivals.

He said MTN was particularly excited about the aspect of this year’s celebration which was aimed at celebrating agriculture and farmers across the district.

“Farmers are very important and we all need to do our best to support them. To this end, MTN continues to find innovative ways of using technology to improve on the wellbeing of these farmers,” he said.

Mr. Basintale noted that MTN in partnership with Ignitia, a Valued Added Service provider, recently launched a service that allowed farmers to check the weather condition for the day before embarking on any activity.

The service known as the ISKA weather service can be accessed by farmers on MTN mobile network by dialing *455#m.

Another exciting offer mentioned by the General Manager for the Northern Business District was the ‘farm direct’ service which provided extension services to farmers and could be accessed through short code 30037.

Mr. Basintale announced that the company was organising the MTN Internet Festival which would see them roll out a number of exciting activities aimed at getting celebrants to appreciate MTN Internet Services.

He said MTN through its foundation had continued to take health, education and economic empowerment projects across the country.

Five of such projects have been deployed to the Upper West Region which over fifteen thousand people were benefiting directly at a total cost of GH¢ 600,000.00.

Mr Basintale who promised an enhanced network throughout the celebration of the festival, hinted that currently MTN was constructing a 20-Seater ICT Center in partnership with UNDP at Hamile, a six unit classroom with office and store for Kpanfa School and a library for the people of Gwollu in the Sissala West District.

Naa Karbo thanked MTN for its continued support for the celebration of the festival and appealed to his people to remain loyal to the company by patronizing its products and services.

The theme for this year is “Celebrating 37 years of Kobine in Unity and Peace for Prosperity”.
