Bouyem Chief appeals for reconstruction of road

The Chief of Buoyem, Daasebre Ameyaw Kwarteng Amaniampong, has appealed to government to reconstruct the Asueyi Junction – Buoyem link road to enhance economic activities in the area.

He said the eight-kilometre stretch road had deteriorated and could better be described as a death trap rather than a life enhancing facility.

Daasebre Amaniampong made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a grand durbar to climax the one week annual ‘Nwonafiekese Yam Festival’ on the theme: “Unity and Development,” at Buoyem in the Techiman North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The festival is celebrated to give thanks to God and the ancestors for a successful farming season and to pave the way for the consumption of new yam by the chief, elders and the people of the community.

He said the five kilometre Buoyem–Akonkonte road and the onya–Amangoase–Krokyia–Tenabea 20 kilometres ring road were all in deplorable states and must, therefore, be reconstructed to help better their lot.

Nana Amanimpong said Buoyem and all those surrounding villages were farming communities that produced tubers, cereals and legumes for the Akumfi Ameyaw III international market at Techiman.

He, however, expressed regret that the bad roads made it extremely difficult to transport the farm produce to the market during the harvest season, making farmers to incur financial losses because of glut.

Daasebre Amaniampong, therefore, appealed to government through the Techiman North District Assembly to consider their plight as farming was the main occupation that supported their livelihoods.
