Youth urged to eschew indiscipline

Mr Samuel Sarpong, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has told students not to ruin their academic careers through acts of indiscipline and other social evils.

He said they need to stay focused and work hard on their books in order to assure themselves of a fulfilling future.

He spoke against absenteeism, truancy, drugs addiction, physical assaults on their teachers and other bad habits.

Mr Sarpong made the call when he toured some basic schools in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality to welcome kids enrolled into the mainstream school system for the first time.

He was accompanied by the Regional Education Director, Mr Sarfo Kantanka, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Kwaku Afrifa Yamoh Ponko.

He reminded parents of their responsibility to educate their children and said they should make sure that they provided them with their basic needs.

They should additionally supervise them in the home to help them to make productive use of their free time.

Mr Sarpong said education was a priority on the government’s development agenda and that it would go to all lengths to promote quality and access.

He presented school uniforms, exercise books, crayons, pencils, biscuits and toffees to the class one pupils.

Sunsuaso M/A primary, Achinakrom M/A primary and Krapa M/A primary were among schools the minister visited.
