La-Nkwantanang MCE educates pupils on cholera

Mr Franklin Anku, La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), on Tuesday appealed to pupils to wash their hands with soap to avoid cholera and other communicable diseases.

Addressing pupils in La- who experienced their first day in school, he said the cholera outbreak has not subsided hence the need for them to observe personal hygiene.

The MCE made the appeal in the company of Mrs Elizabeth Oduro-Mensah, Municipal Director of Education, when he visited a number of schools in the area to welcome pupils who are attending school for the first time.

Mr Anku who distributed toys and stationery to the pupils asked them to handle food given to them carefully and concentrate on their lessons.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency, the Public Relations Officer of the Municipal Education Directorate, Mr Ahmed Alhassan said Edukan, an organisation that helps child to child campaign, collects gifts from children in The Netherlands and send them to children in other countries.

He said the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in collaboration with Hopespring Foundation Ghana, facilitates the distribution of the donated items in Ghana.

He said 1,600 gift boxes were distributed to 54 other primaries schools within the municipality.

The Municipal Assembly also donated gifts valued at GH¢ 3,000.00.
