The Regional House of Chiefs chose a Committee of 4 among them to adjudicate the case but the Committee is strongly to have ignored the relevant facts of the case and instead ruled for the Chief based upon simple technicalities.
From dependable sources, the Committee ruled for the Chief because the Lawyer for his Opponents could not attend the Session in which the ruling was given.
Thus, the Committee ignored the relevant facts of the case to declare the Professor legible for the Stool and consequently, the Chief of the Town.
But as indicated in this GNA report, the Sub-Chiefs listed constitute an indispensable group of kingmakers whose approval cannot be sidelined to install any Chief in the Town. Therefore, if those sub-Chiefs have themselves initiated or led the removal of the Professor from the Stool, no entity outside the Town can impose the Chief on its People.
It must be noted that it has taken over a decade to resolve this chieftaincy problem at Nsoatre which took the lives of some youthful Citizens at its peak. The Town has suffered quite a lot from the recalcitrant Professor and his cohorts both in human toll and infrastructural development. The Citizens have had enough stagnation in progress. And it is time to take such a move to help the Town move on.
Assuming the last ruling, to which an appeal by the opponents of the Chief is still pending, were accepted by the People, the Chief has since the ruling not performed any Traditional rites or functions to substantiate his position. He has not been part of any efforts by the People of Nsoatre to solve developmental problems confronting the Town; neither has he ever led the Town in any of its Cultural activities routinely performed by the Chief to satiate the moral and spiritual needs of the People. Festivals have been suspended indefinitely and the People have been subjected to endless uncertainty in their physical safety.
The Chief's appeal for calm, now, through the National Media, might have helped a bit to settle the conflict peacefully without any loss of lives, if he had done so at the very onset of the conflict. Instead, he chose to solicit thugs and coerce the Police to "muscle down" the opponents. That very violent line of approach to resolve the conflict, all the more confirmed the fears among his opponents the he was prone to hooliganism. Many rumors of the Chief being a drug abuser and always trying to use force to settle disagreements even among ordinary friends had long been circulating around, and I believe such were some of the reasons for which many disapproved of him from the beginning. But instead of towing a line that could have helped discount such rumors, the Chief resorted to measures that ended up causing bloodshed.
At this point, the consensus of the listed sub-Chiefs reflect the best interests of the Town and may not ever be surmounted. A few of the Sub-Chiefs who initially and believably fraudulently approved of the Professor's ascension to the Stool have mysteriously passed and he possibly has a minority of Sub-Chiefs to support his incumbency.
For the sake of Peace, if the Chief really means it for the Citizens of Nsoatre, what he needs to do immediately is simply to abdicate and abandon any quests to stay on as the Chief of Nsoatre.
There seems to be a greater probability that so long as the Prof hangs around as the Chief, the Town would know little to no Peace, and that will deny the Town its needed progress.
The House of Chiefs does not even have continue the old case as it was filed before it. Rather, it should accept that the Chief has been deposed as per the Customs of the Citizens of Nsoatre. Period!
Long Live Ghana!!!
