Ministers inspect blasted bridge at Agona Swedru

Mr. Akwasi Oppong Ofosu, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Central Regional Minister, have visited the site where the bridge on River Akora was blasted at Agona Swedru.

The bridge was destroyed by dynamite blast by Mr. Djakpa Nurudeen, a contractor engaged in dredging and the construction of culverts along the banks of the Akora River.

The blast also affected some nearby buildings including the house of Nana Kobina Botwe II, Swedruhene.

Mr. Sarpong and Mr. Ofosu were led to inspect the bridge by Mr. Samuel Oppong, Municipal Chief Executive.

The two ministers described the situation as unfortunate and gave the assurance that the government would do everything possible to reconstruct the bridge.

The Ministers also paid a courtesy call on Swedruhene to sympathize with him.

Mr. Sarpong urged the assembly to team-up with the contractors to repair the affected parts of the building.

Nana Botwe appealed to the Government to award the construction of bridges in Agona Swedru to competent contractors in future, adding that this was the second time his building had suffered a dynamite blast.

A team of officers and men from the 48 Engineers Regiment of Ghana Armed Forces and officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation also inspected the extent of damage to the bridge.

The engineers said it would take three months to reconstruct the bridge.
