Government says it is fully committed to plans to convert all the ten polytechnics in the country into technical universities.
Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said this in response to concerns raised by Polytechnic Teachers about government’s silence on its campaign promise to upgrade the polytechnics into universities.
Mr. Ablakwa tolds JOY NEWS, government is currently studying the report of the committee set up to roll out a road map for the implementation of the policy.
He said experiences of other countries such as South Africa and Germany, which went the same way, were also being reviewed.
Government, he said, was determined to ensure that “when we finally implement this, it will not be a conversion by word of mouth.”
The deputy minister said it was critical to avoid the mistakes other countries may have made converting polytechnics into technical universities.
Mr. Ablakwa also discounted suspicions by POTAG that the implementation of the policy was being resisted by some interest groups.
