NPP is fighting a lost battle- Asiedu-Nketiah

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the weekend commended Ghanaians for the high sense of maturity and civility they exhibited in election 2012.

It said the way and manner the electorate and Ghanaians in general conducted themselves, before and during election 2012 was highly commendable; hoping such spirit would be maintained after and beyond the election to facilitate accelerated national development.

Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, General Secretary of the NDC, gave the commendation when addressing thousands of NDC supporters at a victory rally in Sunyani.

He noted that election 2012 was the most peaceful and transparent election conducted in the annals of Ghana’s democracy.

He emphasized that the outcome of Election 2012 showed the trust and confidence Ghanaians had in the NDC and assured that the government would continue with the Better Ghana agenda to alleviate the plight of the citizenry.

Mr Asiedu-Nketiah explained that the NDC’s victory was designed by God.

He said the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had the right to challenge the outcome of the election results.

The NDC General Secretary pointed out that the international media and other foreign observers, who were in the country to observe the election had praised Ghana for the free, fair and transparent manner it was conducted.

Mr Asiedu-Nketiah said the NPP “is fighting a losing battle” as its leadership had no concrete evidence to confirm their claim of electoral malpractices.

He assured Ghanaians that their security was guaranteed as the government was already prepared to avert any act that could jeopardize national peace and stability.

Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, National Organiser of the NDC, reiterated that the presence of the party agents, election observers and security personnel at all the 26,000 polling stations attested the transparent manner Election 2012 was conducted.

He called on supporters of the NDC and Ghanaians in general not to be worried but celebrate the NDC victory with patience as all was set for the swearing in of President John Dramani Mahama in January 2013.

Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, said the region saw tremendous development under the better Ghana agenda in the past four years that was why the party won 16 out of the 29 parliamentary seats.

He noted that Brong-Ahafo used to be a stronghold of the NPP, but the NDC was able to win more votes and seats because of the level of development chalked in the areas of health, road, agric and education.

Mr Nyamekye-Marfo commended supporters of the party for their commitment and support during the electioneering campaign.
