Rotary Club International inaugurates Accra-Spintex Rotary Club

Accra, Sept. 2, GNA - Rotary International on Saturday inaugurated the Rotary club of Accra Spintex and presented it with a charter to be fully admitted to its membership as the 25th club in Ghana.

Speaking at a Charter Presentation Gala Night, Mr Theodore Diop, District Governor of Rotary International District 9100 said it was important for the new Club to exhibit the core values of the Rotary, which are service, fellowship, diversity, integrity and leadership.

He said “this attributes make people want to be a Rotarian.”

Mr Diop said the first duty of the Club was to give others the desire to be Rotarian by leading an exemplary life both inside and outside.

He said since the establishment of the club, it had seriously been concerned with the needs of people, far and near, saying, “we give way for humanitarian values to meet urgent and humanitarian needs that can advance the lives of men”.

Mr Diop urged the leadership of the new club to be mindful of the peace and understanding that it would bring to the world.

He noted that there is a latent goodness waiting to be touched by the inspiration of members and open itself for possibilities and reach within to embrace humanity.

Mr Sam Okudzeto, Trustee Vice Chair of Rotary International encouraged the new charter to desire, explore and learn from matured ones to enable them to perform their task effectively.

He said every Rotarian represented a core of development in their community adding that it was important for every member to play a role to ensure development in the society.

He urged members to be punctual and also pay their annual contributions to support their programmes.

Mrs Mildred Sika Tettey, Charter President of Accra-Spintex Rotary Club said the 27 Charter members of the club had come to realise that in Rotary it was not about individual profession but rather togetherness in building bridges of goodwill.

She said the Club was privileged to be the only Club in Ghana to receive its charter from the Rotary International President as well as a certificate from the District Governor.

She expressed their commitment to work hard and contribute effectively to Rotary service projects and fund raising for Rotary International and also work with Clubs within the Rotary Family for the good of the society.

Rotary Club International is the world’s first volunteer service organisation and currently made up of 1.3 million business and professional leaders.

It has over 33,000 clubs in more than 200 countries worldwide and has PolioPlus as its flagship programme, which is aimed at eradicating polio worldwide.

It has also a Rotary Foundation, which is the world’s largest private provider of international scholarships.
