MCE donates life jacket to communities

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa Nsueam, Mrs. Christiana Kobinah, has presented 15 life jackets valued at GHC600 to two communities in her constituency.

The two communities are Aklika and Sixteen Million in the Simpa Aboyaya and Teberebe electoral areas, respectively.

Presenting the items at Aklika, on Wednesday, the MCE said the donation was in response to a request made by the Community to the Assembly because of the frequent loss of lives on the Bonsa River.

Mrs. Kobinah explained that to end the persistent deaths on the River, the 48 Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces visited the two communities a month ago to assess the best form of transport on the River.

According to the MCE, after the two-day survey the team recommended that a bridge be constructed on the River.

Mrs. Kobinah said because six lives had been lost within two months on the River the Assembly would in the short-term procure canoes for the communities.

The Municipal National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Coordinator, Mr. Kenneth Mensah, used the opportunity to demonstrate to members of the community how to use a life jacket effectively to save them from drowning.

Receiving the items on behalf of the two communities, the assembly member for Simpa Aboyaya Electoral Area, Mr. Stephen Kwaku, thanked the Assembly for the gesture and assured them that the facility would be taken care of to ensure its longevity.**
