Saboba district receives Government's free school uniform

Saboba, July 31, GNA - The Saboba district in the northern region has taken delivery of over 340,000 uniforms for distribution to pupils in basic schools in the district.

Mr Joseph Nimpuri, Presiding Member of the Saboba District Assembly launched the distribution on Friday on behalf of Mr John Adolf Ali, the District Chief Executive at the Gerimata and Kunabulk primary schools under Government's Free School Uniform Programme.

Mr Nimpuri said the distribution formed part of the policies being implemented by the government to reduce the cost of education on parents and also raise the standard of education in the rural areas.

The Saboba district has a total enrolment of 17,747 pupils, made up of 9,123 boys and 8,624 girls in basic schools.

Mr Ali called on parents to take advantage of the provision of the uniform to send their children to school and ensure that they were retained in school.

He urged parents to take interest in their wards' education instead of neglecting them to indulge in activities that would not benefit them in future.

Mr Ali announced that the Assembly would soon construct a modern library complex and stock it with the relevant books to make learning easier. He also asked parents to encourage their children to patronize the library after its completion.

The DCE warned parents against the habit of betrothing young girls to marriage.

Mr Philip Debabe, the District Director of Education asked parents to ensure that pupils took proper care of the school uniform.

He also urged head teachers to ensure that the Capitation Grant was used judiciously to lessen the burden on burden on parents.
