Spray maize farms against army worms- Agriculturist

Nkoranza (B/A), Oct. 24, GNA - Dr. Kofi Afakye, Nkoranza District Director of Agricultural Services has called on maize farmers to take the initiative to spray their farms in support of efforts being made by the Agricultural Extension Services against the army worm infestation in the district.

He told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza on Tuesday that the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Ernest Akobour Debrah, had paid a working visit to Nkoranza to study the situation and offered the necessary support in addressing the problem.

Dr Afakye said the Minister provided 250 litres of ureko pesticides towards the mass spraying exercise and that the Agricultural Extension Officers were vigorously carrying out the exercise. He said more spraying machines were expected to arrive in the district to speed up with the exercise to save the maize farms from being destroyed by the worms.

Dr. Afakye commended the intervention by the Minister, saying but for the spraying exercise, many hectares of maize farms would have been destroyed resulting in a great loss to the farmers.
