KFW to provide BAK district with 65 boreholes this year

Kokoado (Ash), May 22, GNA - The Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma (BAK) District of Ashanti is to be provided with 65 boreholes and 200 household toilets under the Rural Water and Sanitation Project Four (RWSP4), this year.

The projects, to be funded jointly by the German Government through the KFW, the assembly and beneficiary communities would be executed by a German Company, IGIP and their local counterparts, the Maple Consult.

Mr Hajo Sheifa, Project Advisor of IGIP, announced this at the launch of the RWSP at Kokoado near Kuntanase on Friday. He said the package was part of the 1,000 boreholes and 3,400 toilets earmarked for 15 selected districts in the region. Mr Sheifa stated that since the projects were demand-driven, they would be allocated to communities, which would qualify and ready to pay their counterpart fund.

He disclosed that the sanitation facilities would be provided for communities, which would demand the facility and urged assembly members to educate their people on the need to access it. Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, the District Chief Executive, commended the German Government and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) for providing funds to support the projects and pledged that the assembly would ensure the early completion of the projects. The district, he said benefited from the provision of 45 boreholes in the first phase of the project three years ago. The DCE cautioned communities, which would not meet the criteria for the selection not to blame the assembly or attribute it to any political interference.

Mr Albert Marfo, Presiding Member of the assembly, asked the assembly members to liaise with the chiefs, unit committee members and other stakeholders to ensure peace and development in their areas.
