World Vision constructs 181 boreholes in Kintampo District

World Vision International (WV), a Christian humanitarian Non-Governmental Organisation, has constructed 181 boreholes estimated at GH¢4,264,000 in 68 communities in the Kintampo South District of Brong-Ahafo.

These boreholes, according to the WV, have contributed to improved access to potable water, and have ultimately improved the quality of health of about 90,000 people, including children.

Mrs. Esther Lehmann-Sow, the Regional Leader, West Africa Region of the WV, said this on Wednesday, when she inaugurated three mechanized water systems, constructed by the NGO in partnership with the Ghana Integrated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (GI-WASH) at Krabonso in the District.

She explained that prior to the drilling of the boreholes, most people in the District relied on open-sources of water, which adversely affected the academic performance of school children as they went to school late, and sometimes absented themselves because they walked long distances to fetch water.

Mrs. Lehmann-Sow appreciated the strong partnership between the WV, the Kintampo South District Assembly, and its decentralised departments, and the traditional authorities in the area for working together to improve lives, especially children and women.

Mr. Kojo Nyame Datiakwa Bosomfour, the Kintampo South District Chief Executive, appealed to the people to ensure the proper maintenance of the facility.

He commended the WV for its tremendous assistance in providing the basic essential needs of the people, and, therefore, asked the communities to revive their communal labour spirit to support development efforts.

Mr. Bosomfour entreated the communities to initiate “self-help” projects to attract support from local and international NGOs, as the Assembly alone could not shoulder development responsibilities.
