UGAG meets stakeholders

The Unemployed Graduates Association of Ghana (UGAG) is set to embark on a stakeholder engagement tour as part of our commitment to helping find solutions to unemployment in Ghana.

This stakeholder engagement tour will commence in August 2016 with the Ghana Statistical Service. We selected their office as the first point of call because we aim at finding out the reasons for the lack of data on the exact number of unemployed youth in the country and what initiatives they are working on, in terms of gathering data concerning unemployment.

Other institutions we seek to interact with include the Registrar Generals' Department, IMANI, Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Youth Enterprise Support, the economic management teams of the various political parties and their flagbearers, Ghana Police Service, embassies of donor partners, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Science and Technology, Association of Ghana Industries, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ghana Employers Association, University administrators through their various associations etc.

Ghana is struggling with a high rate of youth unemployment and UGAG sees it as a responsibility to help find solutions to this problem. We believe that by engaging these stakeholders, we will get an opportunity to know how best they understand the present situation, after which ideas can be shared to bring about a lasting and practical solution to unemployment.

As an association, this tour is an opportunity to let these stakeholders know what our aims and objectives are; what we have been able to achieve so far, and also offer solutions to unemployment. We have a huge interest in listening to stakeholders, and meeting them will create a platform to know what their challenges are in executing their responsibilities and how best we can collaborate to see massive change.

At the end of this stakeholder tour, we will come out with a comprehensive report that we believe would offer more insight into the unemployment challenge in our beloved nation.

We will at the same time use the various platforms to call on our members and the general public to be law abiding before, during and after the 2016 general elections.

Signed
