Teacher swindles colleague

The Circuit Court at Goaso has remanded Godwin Appiah, a 28-year-old teacher of New Apostolic Junior Secondary School at Kukuom in the Asunafo District of Brong-Ahafo for withdrawing a colleague's salaries.

Appiah pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Samuel Gbedemah told the court presided by Mr S.K.A. Asiedu, that the accused withdrew the salaries of Mr John Boakye for two months at the Goaso branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank.

The prosecutor said both Appiah and the victim withdraw their salaries from the same bank.

Chief Insp Gbedemah said on January 28 this year, the accused introduced himself to officials at the bank as Mr Boakye and withdrew the latter's salary of 365,147 cedis as well as his.

The prosecutor said when Mr Boakye went to the bank to withdraw his salary he was told he had already done so and this nearly led to his arrest.

On March 31 this year, the suspect again went to collect Mr Boakye's salary but the accountant of the bank suspected a foul deal and confronted him (Appiah), who admitted his guilt and was he handed over to the police.
