Stop overcrowding dormitories- Victor Smith

Victor Emmanuel Smith, the Eastern Regional Care-taker Minister, has appealed to heads of schools to stop overcrowding students in one dormitory, saying it endangers their lives.

He said overcrowding students in one room had many health and other hazardous implications and that heads should reduce admissions to suit the available infrastructure.

Mr Smith made the call when he visited some Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Lower Manya Krobo and Upper Manya Krobo Districts to inspect some on-going projects promised by the government.

During the inspections, he observed that most of the dormitories in the schools had been overcrowded with no or very little space left.

Moreover, the students had been made to keep their trunks, chop boxes and other luggage in the same dormitories in which in case of emergencies, there would be a stampede which could claim students’ lives.
