Sekondi Landing Beach Committee to register over 200 under NHIS

The Sekondi Landing Beach Committee has set aside GH¢14,000 towards the registration of over 2000 residents of Sekondi under the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS).

The free NHIS registration forms part of the contribution of the Committee’s efforts towards ensuring quality health care for people who cannot afford to pay the premium.

Speaking at a ceremony in Sekondi to launch the Sekondi Community Free Health Insurance Scheme Registration initiated by the Committee on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Committee, Nana Kofi Essoun, who is also the chief fisherman for Sekondi, said the Committee was set up to better the lot of the people and would work towards that direction.

He urged all those who had not registered under the scheme to take advantage of the exercise to register.

Nana Essoun said the Committee had already constructed a shed for fishermen and fishmongers of Sekondi to relax and mend their nets.

He assured the people of Sekondi that the Committee would use the profits from the sale of the pre-mix fuel judiciously to improve the living standards of the people.

The Mayor for Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Captain (RTD) Anthony Cudjoe, commended the Committee for the initiative which would improve the lives of the people.

He urged the residents to embrace family planning methods to enable them to take proper care of their wards and also give them quality education for a better future.

The ten communities that fall under the Sekondi Landing Beach to benefit from the free NHIS registration include Asafo Street, Kweikuma, Asaman, Nkotompo, Egyirabowa-Bakam, Ekuase, Adiembra, Bakakyire and Sekondi.**
