Seed Producers call for action against recalcitrant members

Koforidua, July 20, GNA - Members of the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions Branch of the Seed Producers Association of Ghana have appealed to the Eastern Regional Branch of the Ghana Agriculture Input Dealers Association (GAIDA) to sanction owners of “Agyaku Agro-Chemicals” of Akim Oda and “Erijoy Agric Biz Enterprise” of Nsawam for selling uncertified seed maize in faked packaging materials of SEEDPAG to the public.

The members explained that those practices destroy the seed business because farmers who purchased bad seeds could not easily make out the difference.

The members made the appeal at their meeting in Koforidua on Wednesday after the Eastern Regional Seed Inspector, Mr Joseph Agayaba, who had used some of the faked seeds purchased from the two faked seed dealers, educated them on the differences between the right packaging materials and the faked ones.

They called for cooperation with members of GAIDA to ensure that only certified seed maize are sold to farmers to help win the confidence of farmers in the use of certified seeds.

This would help promote the seed industry for the benefit of both members of SEEDPAG and GAIDA since SEEDPAG members sell their produce through the shops of members of GAIDA.
