Road Contractors urged to submit invoices on time

Ho, Sept 30, GNA - Mr Emmanuel K. Twumasi, Director Monitoring and Evaluation, Ministry of Roads and Transport on Monday, advised road contractors to submit invoices on completed jobs on time to facilitate early payment. He gave the advice when the Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads and Transport inspected some road projects in the Ho Municipality as part of their weeklong inspection of road projects in the Volta region. Mr Twumasi said payment for works done would be delayed when the relevant documents got to the Ministry late for which the Ministry was always blamed. The roads inspected were the upgrading works on the Akpenamawu road, Anagokordzi/Prisons road, Kekeli-Mawuko road and the rehabilitation works on the Mawuli Estate roads and the partial construction of the Barracks road. Mr Yaw Ntow-Ababio, Acting Chairman of the Committee expressed satisfaction with work so far done but was not happy about the general delays in the work schedules on the projects. He said the Committee was expecting the contractors on the jobs to be around to answer some questions from the committee members because "we have approved huge sums of money for the jobs". Mr Ntow-Ababio urged Road Engineers of the various road agencies to exchange information regarding contractors in the sector with a view to advising the appropriate authorities on their levels of competence and capabilities. Mr Stephen Attipoe, Ho Municipal Roads Engineer said GH¢1,257,160 have been allocated for periodic jobs in the Municipality this year. On why there were many road contractors from outside the region were engaged on projects in the municipality, Mr Attipoe explained that except for Defiat Company, there were no road contractors with the requisite equipment and facilities to undertake the types of jobs on hand. He said those that were available undertake only the construction of culverts and other minor works.
