Residents of New Suame benefit from market complex

Kumasi, June 25, GNA- Residents of New Suame in the Kumasi metropolis are to benefit from the construction of a market complex estimated to cost about 20 billion cedis.

The complex would be made up of stores and stalls as well as access roads to be financed jointly by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame, who announced this at a meeting with the electorate in Kumasi on Sunday, said the project would take off next year.

He said the Old Suame market had not been abandoned and that the KMA would rehabilitate it later with the support from voluntary contributions of the people.

The MP said through his share of the common fund, he has been able to construct an eight-classroom block, office and store for the New Suame Methodist primary school and rehabilitated a six-classroom block for the Nurudeen Islamic primary school at the cost of over 1.2 billion cedis.

Mr Mensah-Bonsu stated that he has also supported 345 people in the constituency in the payment of premiums for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to enable them to have access to quality health care.

The MP, who is also the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, said the energy crisis was seriously affecting the country's development and advised the people to be patient while the government was finds a lasting solution to the problem.

Mr Asiedu Keteke, assemblyman for Old Suame electoral area, appealed to the MP to improve the facilities at the old Suame National Vocational Training Centre.

He appealed to mechanics at the Suame Magazine and drivers to avoid parking their vehicles at the roadside since it is causing accidents and also spillage of oil on the roads.

The residents appealed to the MP to monitor and supervise contractors working on the access roads in the area to ensure that they do a good job.
