Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested one person in connection with riots at the Mampong Technical College of Education.

Class News' Ashanti Regional correspondent, Aboagye Frank Jackson reports of heavy security presence at the school, with about 15 police and two police armoured cars deployed to the institution to curtail any mayhem at the school.

Frank reports that more than 260 students of the school were sacked for failing in Elective Mathematics, but the students claim they have been treated unfairly and are demanding a chance to rewrite the paper.

The students say they paid GH¢1,800 as fees and are demanding a refund of their monies if school authorities do not allow them to re-sit.

Furthermore, the students disclosed that they were not told about the course prior to registration.

Some of the students vandalised school property and broke louvre blades.

The police have intervened and advised authorities to shut down the school following intelligence that some of the students have threatened to burn down the place.

The Principal Rev Dr Lyuieko Aboeropre explained to our reporter that the school will reopen on Monday November 30, 2015.
