Parents to contribute towards rehabilitation of school

Nkoranza (B/A), Feb. 28, GNA - Parents and guardians of pupils and students of the Roman Catholic Primary and Junior Secondary schools at Nkoranza in Brong Ahafo, are to contribute 20,000 cedis each towards the rehabilitation of the old school block. They also resolved at a PTA meeting to organise a fund raising harvest in April to raise additional funds in support of the project. The Reverend Fr. Peter Fosu Ahenkan, Parish Priest in-charge of the Catholic Church appreciated their efforts and urged them to help initiate more plans towards the development of the school. He gave the assurance that the Church would support the activities and programmes of the school. Rev. Fr. Ahenkan appealed to the teachers to redouble their efforts to help improve the academic performance of the school.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Peter Bekabr expressed grave concern about how some of the J.S.S. form three students have refused coming to school after they had registered for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and urged the parents to help check the practice. Mr Bekabr warned that recalcitrant students should not be allowed to write the examinations. He complained that the school lacked English textbooks, he therefore, pleaded with the parents to purchase some for their wards' as the Government was yet to supply some to the schools. The PTA Secretary Mr Baah Peprah expressed gratitude to Rev. Fr. Ahenkan for providing the school with 1.4 million cedis and 400 cement blocks towards the construction of the Roman Catholic Kindergarten. At the close of the meeting, the members resolved to maintain the 13-member executive of the Association under the chairmanship of Mr Yaw Adomako for a second term.
