PTA chairman commends NPP government

Nkoransa, (B/A), May 31, GNA - Mr Mark Yaw Dekyi, Parent-Teacher-Association chairman of the Effah Junior Secondary School at Nkoranza in Brong Ahafo Region has commended the government of the New Patriotic Party for the introduction of the capitation grants, as the policy has encouraged parents to send their wards to school. Mr Dekyi told the GNA at Nkoranza on Monday that parents had really appreciated the efforts of the government in making basic education fee-free for every school going child of Ghana and said a poor parent has now enrolled the ward in school.

He described as surprising and unprecedented in the state for the government to also provide school uniforms, bags and writing materials to needy pupils in schools and therefore stressed the need for parents to do well to offer the necessary support towards the education of their wards to augment the efforts of the government. The PTA Chairman deplored the negative attitudes and practices of some parents, who would not feed their wards properly or even ensure that the children dress and appear neatly for school, adding that, parents with those attitudes should change and plan well for their wards' education, as that was the only legacy they could bequeath to them.

Mr Dekyi advised parents to be very mindful about the movements of their children and check them against bad company amongst their peer groups in order that they would not involve themselves in social vices, that could have negatively affect their education and future life.

Mr Dekyi also pleaded with the pupils and students to take their education seriously in order to further to high levels. He cautioned them against premarital sexual practices, so as not to drop out of school as a result of pregnancy or worst still, contract HIV/AIDS.

The Chairman praised the District Director of Education, Mr Kwabena Agyemang Badu for his untiring efforts in promoting education in the district, adding that since he assumed office, there has been a remarkable improvement in the standard of education in Nkoranza. He, therefore, called on teachers and parents in the district to throw their weight behind the District Director and encourage him in his work so as to move the district forward.
