On the platform of incorruptible leadership, I stand alone - Nduom

Flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has announced that the failure of the candidates who are vying for the presidency to declare their assets and sources of campaign funding, makes him the only candidate who can be trusted to run an “incorruptible” government.

According to him, the leaders of the two leading political parties are “hiding behind a legal smokescreen saying, ‘when a law compels them to be transparent and accountable, they will comply.’ Sadly, they miss the point that you lead from the front. Moral persuasion is the best teacher, moral authority is the one that lasts a lifetime and they have failed to take the moral path to leadership.”

In line with his long touted call for transparency and accountability from the candidates who are vying for the presidency, Dr. Nduom, at a media briefing has unveiled the sources of funding for his party and campaign as well at documents declaring his assets and tax returns.

It will be recalled that the PPP founder after several months of advocacy made public the results of his medical examination from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital which cleared him to stand for political office.

According to Dr. Nduom, Ghanaians now have a real choice to make between “pretenders and doers. While the pretenders talk, a doer like Papa Kwesi Nduom will take strong, bold steps and do will make this nation great and strong by ridding this country of corruption.”

“I am human, but on the platform of incorruptible leadership, I stand alone. I stand alone as the only one in the Presidential race, this year, willing to make a personal sacrifice. Politics in Ghana will never be the same again.”

The PPP flagbearer however bemoaned the fact that while the declaration of assets and sources of campaign funding was an accepted minimum requirement for other developed democracies, his government, through his action, was going to “set a new high standard for the others to follow.”

“If we continue our historical voting pattern, we will continue to get our historical, sub-par and mediocre results; and this happens because we do not demand that our politicians meet the minimum standards necessary to be President.”

“Because this is Ghana we put leaders here who don’t have the competence and who will do just about anything just to be elected, President.”
