Napo's dad to be buried next week

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Ashanti kingdom have been thrown into a state of mourning, following the sudden death of Otumfuo’s Apagyahene, Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie.

He is the father of the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, otherwise known as Napo.

The sudden death of Oheneba Kyeretwie, 62, who was the nephew of the former President, Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor, and the former Minister of Defence, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, was announced early this year.

He passed away at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) after a short illness.

Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie, known in private life as Joseph Prempeh, was the son of the late Ashanti King, Nana Osei Prempeh Agyemang II.

He trained as an Anthropologist in the United Kingdom.

He served the Ashanti Kingdom diligently as the Apagyahene, a stool specially reserved for sons of the Asantehene, which belonged to the Ankobea clan of the Akan tradition.

By tradition, the occupants of the Apagya stool are direct sons to the Asantehene, hence the title Oheneba (Prince), which in the local parlance means “Son of the King”.

Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie was a former Board Chairman of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) and also served as the Kumasi Traditional Council representative to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

Relatives and friends will remember the Chief for his candid opinion on issues and his intolerance for indiscipline.
