NGOs organises X'mas Party for children

Gomoa Mprumem (C/R), Dec. 31, GNA - The Ancom and Friends Care an NGO based in Ohio, United States of America in collaboration with Friends of Winneba and Orphanage Care, also an NGO based in the Central Region, at the weekend organised a Christmas Party for 700 children at Mprumem in the Gomoa District.

The children, who came from communities, including, Simbrofo, Otawo, Ewa and Mprumen, were entertained with food and soft drinks and later given unused cloths worth 20 million cedis. Addressing the children and some adults, Mrs Comfort Donkor, wife of Nana Dr Obrofo, Odikro of Gomoa Mprumen stressed the need for parents to change their lifestyles to enable them to invest more in the education of their children.

She urged them to take advantage of the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) and the Capitation Grant, to enrol their children and wards in school, to acquire the requisite knowledge and skills to be proactive in life.

She charged them to educate children on their sexual behaviour, as it is an effective way to avoid risks, such as unplanned pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), including HIV/AIDS. Mrs. Donkor said children should resist temptations from peer groups, who would draw them to live immoral lives, which will have negative impact on their future.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Emmanuel P. Wallace, the Co-ordinator of Friends of Winneba, said that the party was organised as their social support and care in a way to let children in and around Gomoa Mprumen to feel at home during the Christmas festivities and would extend the event to other communities in the Region.

He advised parents to play their full role in the upbringing of the children to grow into responsible adults.
