NGO Builds School for Pwalugu Community

Pwalugu, (UE) March 25, GNA- A Non-Governmental Organisation, Education Development Organisation (EDO) based in Japan, at the weekend handed over a 360-million cedi three-unit Primary School block it has constructed to the Pwalugu community in the Talensi Nab-dam District of the Upper East Region.

It addition, the NGO presented education and learning materials, including books, school bags, pens, pencils, Mathematical sets and sports kits also worth 100 million cedis to the School. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the presentation ceremony at Pwalugu, the Executive Director of EDO, Dr Augustine A. Awuni, noted that the best legacy one could bequeth to children was education and that it was this reason that motivated him to put up the school in the community.

Dr. Awuni entreated the staff and school children to adopt the culture of maintenance by taking good care of the school and the learning materials.

He also appealed to the teachers to ensure that discipline and higher academic performance was maintained in the school. The District Director of Education for Talensi-Nabdam, Mr. Francis Ayaba, commended EDO for establishing the school saying it was one of the schools in the district, which has the largest enrolment figure. He assured EDO that they would take good care of the school building and learning materials.

Mr Ayaba stressed the need for teachers to redouble their efforts in teaching and maintaining discipline in the school. The Talensi Nabdam District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Sabastian Bisnab in a speech read for him by the District Coordinating Director, Mr Fuseini Alhassan, indicated that with the introduction of the School feeding programme and the Capitation Grant, school enrolment had increased tremendously hence the demand for more classrooms. He therefore commended EDO for complementing the Government's efforts in education. 25 March 07
