NDC still pursuing politics of lies -Ohene-Adu

Obuasi, Feb 23, GNA - Ghanaians have been urged to critically assess all the political parties and vote for the one whose policies and leadership qualities are assets to the nation's development during the December elections.

Mr Aboagye Ohene-Adu, the secretary of the Obuasi branch of the Young Executives Forum (YEF), an organ of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who made the call, said, "voting should be done on the basis of leadership, issues and policies".

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Obuasi on Monday, Mr Ohene-Adu said the country's democracy is growing and therefore, politics of lies and deceit should give way to convincing the electorate on good policies and programmes for votes.

The Obuasi YEF secretary observed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is still pursuing politics of lies and deceit, adding, "NDC is confusing the electorate that NPP has not done anything."

He called on the NPP functionaries to continue to educate the masses against such lies.

"We have to continue to educate the masses on the policies of NPP and its achievements so far under the leadership of President J.A. Kufuor", he said.

Mr Ohene-Adu said the type of leadership the President has provided over the past three years is enough for Ghanaians to give him another four-year term to lead the nation. Touching on political violence, Mr Ohene-Adu appealed to the leadership of the political parties to advise their followers against that act.

"I think as for violence, we as a people should not support it. It is better to debate on issues and convince your opponent instead of resorting to violence", he said.

Mr Ohene-Adu added, "in the 2000 elections, people died, people got injured out of political violence and questioned what has happened to their families,"

The YEF secretary stressed that those to be caught for violence should be prosecuted.

On the voters' registration exercise to begin on March 16, Mr Ohene-Adu emphasised its importance and advised all eligible voters to embrace it.

"We have got to a stage where all Ghanaians have to participate in the building of a strong democracy," he added.
