Miss World 2011 pays courtesy call on Accra Metro Boss

Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), says government is working with the Israeli government to introduce modern teaching technologies to enhance the teaching abilities of teachers.

He said after abolishing the school shift system, government was working to make more classrooms available to help enroll more children.

Mr. Vanderpuije made this known when Miss World 2011 and organisers of Miss World Beauty pageant paid a courtesy call on him in Accra on Tuesday.

The visits aimed at supporting the educational project by Stephanie Karikari, Miss Ghana 2010, which won her the Beauty award with a Purpose Prize in last year’s Miss World Beauty Pageant.

Miss Karikari’s project is to build a nursery school for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah to improve education in the area.

Stephanie shared her prize with Miss Indonesia, on a unique night that saw some 120 other countries competing for honours.

The Beauty with a Purpose is one of five fast track events that formed part of the pre-judging process in choosing an eventual and overall winner.

Dr. Vanderpuije expressed excitement about the project and committed the support of the Metropolitan Assembly.

Miss Ivian Sarcos, Miss World 2011 expressed sadness about the situation in Sodom and Gomorrah, and pledged her support to better the lives of children living in the community.

Madam Julia Morley, Chairperson for Miss World Beauty Pageant, commended the MCE for his support and called on corporate Ghana to also support the project.

Chief Mandela, Grandson of Nelson Mandela, former South African President, said the Beauty with a Purpose programme was an important initiative to help children globally and mobilize young people to be involved in their own country with a useful purpose to assist disadvantage kids.

He called for support for humanitarian actions aimed at serving marginalised individuals and communities around the world.

A sod-cutting ceremony was held at Ayalolo Cluster of Schools for the commencement of the project.**
