Minister commissions Community Centre

Dr Acquinas Tawiah Quansah, Central Regional Minister, has commissioned a 479,000-Ghana- Cedi Community Centre for the chiefs and people of Agona Nyakrom in the Agona West Municipality.

Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku the Tenth, Omanhene of the Nyakrom Traditional Area, jointly commissioned the project with the Regional Minister, to climax their Annual Akwambo Festival.

It was financed by the World Bank, through the District Development Fund (DDF) of the Agona West Assembly.

According to the Engineering Department of the Assembly, the Community Centre comprises an office, hall, stores and library.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Quansah said the construction of new Community Centre at Nyakrom showed how government under President John Dramani Mahama was poised to improve the rural areas.

He said the government would ensure that the chiefs and people of Agona West, especially Nyakrom, had their fair share of the national cake.

The Regional Minister disclosed that the road from Agona Mensakrom through Agona Nyakrom to the Breman Asikuma district, had been awarded on contract for rehabilitation.

He said work was steadily progressing to facilitate the movement of goods and services.

The Minister urged the chiefs and people of Agona Nyakrom to rally solidly behind the government, and exercise greater restraint while efforts were being made to address the economic challenges facing the country.

The Omanhene commended the government for the construction of the road linking Agona Otabilkrom to the Swedru-Akim Oda main truck road, to ease traffic congestion at Agona Swedru.

He appealed to the Central Regional Minister to use his good offices to construct the road to SIddiqq Senior High School, and also improve structures at the school, to enhance teaching and learning.

The Omanhene renewed his appeal to the President John Mahama to create the Agona Central District for Agona Nyakrom, to speed up development of the area.

He commended the government for the numerous development projects in Agona West.

Mr Samuel Oppong, MCE for Agona West and Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom MP for the area, assured the chiefs and people of the area of the government’s determination to provide more social amenities to raise their living standards.
