Lightening destroys TV station at Half Assini

Lightening that struck the Ghana Television Station at Half Assini on May 13, burnt some vital items at the station and this has made it impossible for the people to view programmes .

Mr. Raymond Dzikulu, Officer In-charge of the station, told the GNA in an interview that, financial constraints had made it difficult for management of the Station to repair the fault which includes the replacement of an encoder.

Mr. Dzinkulu expressed concern about the Jomoro District Assembly’s inability to put up structures on land that had been acquired for the construction of a new digital TV station for the district at Tikobo Number One.

Under arrangements for GTV to move from analogue to digital, District Assemblies are required to construct the buildings while GTV provides the equipment.

A top official of the Jomoro District Assembly who pleaded anonymity said the project has delayed due to financial difficulties.

He said efforts were being made by the Assembly to meet the GTV authorities in Sekondi on the construction of the new digital station.

A survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency in the district has revealed that only a few owners of DSTV and Multi TV are able to access TV programmes in the district.**
