Kpando Assembly Inuagurates Development Projects

Four projects undertaken by the Kpando District with funding from State interventions have been inaugurated at the district capital, Kpando on Friday.

The projects are a 400 bed-capacity two-storey dormitory block and an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) block constructed at the cost of GHc 500,000 and GHc 99,900 respectively.

It was financed through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) and the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for the Bishop Herman Senior High School (BIHECO).

Others are the Kpando Art Gallery, worth GHc 100,000 and the District’s first traffic light and walkways built at a cost of GHc 120,000 and funded through the DACF.

Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Kpando District Chief Executive (DCE) said five Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the district have experienced unprecedented infrastructural developments since 2009 to date from GETFUND to meet the increasing students’ population.

They beneficiary schools are, BIHECO, Vakpo Senior High Secondary Technical (VSHSTS), Anfoega SHS, Kpando SHS and Kpando SHS/Technical School (KSHSTS).

He said an additional 400 bed-capacity two storey dormitory block and a six-unit classroom block is under construction at BIHECO.

Mr Ganyaglo disclosed that Vakpo SHSTS has benefited from two two-storey 400bed- capacity dormitories for girls and boys and a six-unit classroom blocks.

He said a 400-bed dormitory and a 12-unit classroom block is under construction with a six-unit classroom block completed at Kpando SHS.

The DCE said the science resource centre has been rehabilitated and plans afoot to supply school beds, 125 desks and also the tarring of the school’s access roads.

KSHSTS has benefited from a six-unit classroom and currently works is ongoing on its ICT centre, a collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and the Kpando Assembly.

Mr Ganyaglo said projects at the Anfoega SHS includes the construction of two 400-bed dormitories, a six-unit classroom block, the tarrind of the school’s access roads, adding that, the Assembly is ready to construct a one-storey administrative block with a library soon.

Ms Akua Sena Dansua, Minister of Tourism and Member of Parliament (MP) for the area urged students to justify the investments being made by the government and their parents by being studious and shunning bad company.

She said her share of the MP’s fund was used to construct a shed for students and a sports stadium.

She pledged government’s resolve for the continuous funding of education to motivate teaching and learning and commended major stakeholders for their support.

Ms Dansua urged school management and the students to take good care of the facilities for a longer lifespan.

Reverend Father Walter Agbetoh, Headmaster of BIHECO commended the government and the Kpando Assembly for their gesture, saying, “We do not have excuses not to perform.”
