Help prevent disasters in the society - Tetteh

Agona Swedru (C/R), Sept. 5, GNA – District and Zonal Coordinators of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have been asked to intensify their education on the prevention and management of disasters.

Mr Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, said this at a day’s workshop for newly recruited Zonal and District Coordinators of NADMO at Agona Swedru.

The 350 participants were drawn from Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Agona East, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam and the Agona West District.

He said people should be counselled about how disasters occur so that they could avoid bad habits.

He said the 2010 flood disaster that struck Agona Swedru and Agona Nyakrom could have been prevented if the people had been educated to desist from building on water ways and throwing rubbish into gutters.

Mr Raymond Kweku Tsotome, Agona West Municipal Director of NADMO, appealed to the Agona West Assembly and government to help rehabilitate their official vehicle which had broken down for the past three years.

Mr Tsotome said the growing occurrence of disasters in the country and other part of the world could be attributed to climate change.

Mr Richard Bafore-Asare, Central Regional Training Coordinator of NADMO, urged the new officers to put what they have been taught into practise.

He said similar workshops have been held for four Districts namely Effutu Municipal, Awutu-Senya, Gomoa East and Gomoa West to update their knowledge about the activities of the organization.

Mr Bafore-Asare appealed to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to assist NADMO officers to help them work effectively
