Greater Accra GPRTU consoles families of accident victims

The Greater Accra Regional Secretariat of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has extended its condolences to the families of members of the union who lost their lives in a plane crash in Accra, last Saturday.

The victims, George Osei, Driver and Kwame Boadu, his Mate were among the 10 victims who lost their lives when an Allied Cargo plane crashed into a vehicle they were travelling in, close to the Hajj Village near Elwak Sports Stadium.

The plane was landing at the nearby Kotoka International Airport when it veered off its course.

Osei and Boadu were members of the 37 Burma Camp GPRTU branch, who were on their usual commercial rounds in a mini-bus when the accident occurred.

Mr. Robert Sarbah, Vice Chairman of the Greater Accra GPRTU described the incident as unfortunate and disturbing.

“Don’t over mourn the dead colleagues, which may also have some effect on your health...Be mindful of road traffic rules to ensure that the lives of your passengers are safe,” Mr. Sarbah advised.

The Regional Vice Chairman also expressed sympathy with the families of the passengers who lost their lives in the bus and urged them to be strong in these trying times “because it is the creator who knows best”.

He commended the branch executives for spending their time to visit the bereaved families and assured them of the Regional Secretariat's support to carry out a befitting burial of their colleagues.

Mr. Kwame Frimpong, Chairman of the 37 Burma Camp branch of the GPRTU expressed appreciation to the government for expressing commitment to assist the victims’ families.**
