DCE threatens to seize bikes from Circuit Supervisors

The Akatsi North District Chief Executive, Mr. James Gunu says the Assembly would be compelled to seize all motorbikes from Circuit Supervisors in the District if the motorbikes meant for effective supervision are rather used for commercial purposes.

Mr. Gunu disclosed that the Member of Parliament for Akatsi North, Mr. Peter Nortsu Kotoe used part of his Common Fund to purchase motorbikes for all the Circuit Supervisors in the area, as part of the MP’s contribution to support education in the District.

He, however, regretted that some of the circuit supervisors are rather using the motorbikes for commercial activities.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of a 6 unit classroom block, a library, store and an office for the Ave-Dzadzepe E.P basic school, a suburb of Ave-Dakpa, the district capital recently, the DCE noted that the Assembly had identified schools that lacked the needed infrastructure and was providing them in collaboration with the MP.

Mr. Gunu pointed out that the Assembly, with the support of the MP, had provided the necessary assistance to schools in the District. This has resulted in an improvement in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) from 18 percent in 2013 to 34 percent in 2014.

He hoped that the 2015 results of the BECE would be better.

Mr. Gunu, therefore, stressed the need for the District Education Directorate to complement Assemblies efforts at helping to improve on performances in schools by adopting disciplinary measures that would ensure that teacher, pupils and students contact hours are effectively used.

The DCE also appealed to the education directorate in the area to help introduce the sanitation week celebration among school children in order to ensure that they would embrace the concept of practicing personal hygiene in an early stage of their lives, so that when they grow, they would not depart from it.

The DCE also announced that the Assembly had introduced tree planting in all the schools to help protect them from being destroyed by rainstorms.

According to him, the Assembly had already secured seedlings for planting and urged school authorities to support the Assembly’s effort not to only beautify the various educational institutions in the area, but also promote environmental protection practices among school children.

The MP for the area, Mr. Nortsu Kotoe, assured the people that he would continue to collaborate with the Assembly to improve on educational activities in the District and disclosed that the classroom block from class one to six was jointly financed by him and the District Assembly.

Mr. Nortsu Kotoe stressed the need for the community to support the Assembly and him (MP) by ensuring that they protect all the facilities provided for them.

He regretted that good maintenance culture was no longer being practiced in many communities and urged them to repair broken doors, instead of waiting for the Assembly to do it.

The Akatsi North District Director of Education, Alhaji Armed Immoro urged parents to promote education in the District by investing in the education of their wards, noting that education was the engine of growth in every community.

The Chief of Ave-Dzadzepe, Togbui Dzidenu Zoglo III commended the District Assembly and the MP for the provision of the new classroom block for the community saying the effective work between the Assembly and the MP had given more meaning to local governance in the District because physical development of all kinds could be seen in almost every community, since the inception of the Assembly.
