DCE praises two education directors

New Edubiase (Ash), Jan 14, GNA - Mr Donimic Yeboah, acting Adansi South District Chief Executive, has praised two former District Directors of Education in the district for raising the standard of education.

He said the district jumped from its 67th position in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) about three years ago to the 64th position in 2004.

Mr Yeboah was speaking at a send-off party for the directors, Mr N. Twumasi Amponsah, who is now the Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education and David K. Obeng, now the Amansie East District Director of Education.

He said the three years' stay of Mr Amponsah in the district saw a reduction in the rate of teenage pregnancies and attributed this to the disciplinary measures he put in place.

Mr Yeboah said these achievements were commendable and worthy of emulation and urged the new District Director of Education to continue with the good work of the former directors.

The outgoing directors expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the assembly and people in the area for the co-operation they received during their tenure of office and hoped they will extend the sae to the new director.

Mr J.K. Onyinah, the new director, said Mr Amponsah would be remembered for establishing the District Assembly Experimental Junior Secondary Primary schools as well as the institution of the best teacher and worker awards.

He also commended Mr Obeng for his good work and said he would be remembered for the excellent raport he established with the teachers.
