Cocaine dealer on admission at the KATH

Kumasi, Jan. 19, GNA - One Kyei Baffour has been admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) after swallowing some substances suspected to be cocaine. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Frank Adu-Poku, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Kumasi on Friday said Baffour was reported to have returned from Holland and that on January 12, he attended a private hospital for medical attention.

DCOP Adu-Poku said the medical officer after diagnosis found that he had swallowed some substance and that he was sent to the police station at Asawase.

He said Baffour later became unconscious and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for emergency surgery of which eight pellets of cocaine were removed from the stomach.

He said the suspect who is now under 24-hour police guard at the hospital would be put before court on his discharge. In another development, DCOP Adu-Poku said an unidentified person in his 30's was found dead in a pool of blood at Aboabo in the Kumasi metropolis on Friday morning.

The deceased believed to be an armed robber was found dead after receiving some gunshots. The Regional Police Commander said eight people suspected to be among the robbers have been arrested and placed in police custody whiles police investigations continue.
